Green Mountain Coffee Announces Additional "K-cup" Price Increase

For the third time in ten months, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has announced a significant price increase to distributors.   This increase, according to a Green Mountain notification is due to increases in raw materials and higher energy and transportation costs.

The price increase will effect coffee prices fof K-cups (for Keurig brewers).    No price increase was provided for other ground or whole bean coffees.

Prices are increasing on all K-cups including:
Timothy's World Coffee K-cups
Green Mountain K-cups
Gloria Jeans K-cups

Gloria Jean's Black Gold K-cups (Try Coffee People Black Tiger)

Gloria Jeans Black Gold is being discontinued.    The coffee is a dark roast blend and has a hint of cinnamon.    The coffee has been a favorite at OneGreatCup for years.   Now that it is going a way, what is a Black Gold lover to do?
I would recommend trying Coffee People Black Tiger.   Black Tiger is really similar in roast profile and flavor.   Tasted side by side, the only difference I can taste is the hint of Cinnamon is not evident in Black Tiger.

Green Mountain Coffee Continues to Consolidate Offerings

In the past months, prices of K-cups have climbed by 25% or more.   Green Mountain blames cost increases on the price of green coffee and transportation as the primary cost drivers.   In addition, the company has reduced the number of individual k-cups in it porfolio.

K-cups that are no longer available:
  • Green Mountain Kona
  • Tully's Kona
  • Coffee People Tree Hugger
  • Newman's Own Special Blend

Lavazza to Buy $250 Million Stake in Green Mountain

Not sure what this means, but I just saw this article on Bloomberg BusinessWeek and it seems that Green Mountain and Lavazza may be teaming up.    Could be that Lavazza Espresso will get quickly bigger in the US or that Keurig / Green Mountain will get bigger in Europe.

My guess is that this will be a pretty powerful partnership.

In the last three years, Green Mountain Corporation has taken direct control of the following  Keurig K-cup producers and manufacturers.
  • Keurig Premium Brewing Systems
  • Tully's Coffee (K-cups and Office Coffee products)
  • Timothy's World Coffee (including Emeril's Coffee K-cups)
  • Diedrich Coffee Roasters (including Coffee People and Gloria Jean's Coffee)
